What networks are your students familiar with?

What are some networks that your students will be familiar with?  How would you link NN to their everyday lives?

I think my middle school students would be very familiar with social networks (online and otherwise) and with food webs.

I agree with Susan. Students know who is in their social network, family network (perhaps). They may have some exposure to the Internet as a network of systems, with a DNS server, routers. They may know from studying networks a LAN, star network, WAN.
