Default Galleries

Posted September 27, 2017 by codeforfun2017

Hi

When you create an account and a first project, it appears that slogo nova creates 2 default galleries automatically.  username Public Gallery and username Private Gallery.  When you create a project, it defaults as private and indicates it's in the username Private Gallery.  However from My Projects, Galleries view, the default public gallery is listed under the Public Galleries tree. But the default private gallery does not show up under the Private Galleries tree?  Is this by design?

Thanks

Since all projects are in your private gallery, you can just click All Projects to view them. If you wish to view projects that are only private, just click the "private" checkbox.

If the default private gallery were to show up in the Private Galleries tree, what do you expect to see there? How would this view differ from the All Projects gallery?

Thanks for the question. You've identified a confusing aspect that was in the old version but is more obvious now.

The "All Projects" button is actually a link directly to the user's default Private Gallery. We handle that gallery separately because it's special - you cannot remove projects from it, so it is guaranteed to contain every project you've made.

Hope this helps!

In reply to Wendy Huang:

All Projects view shows All projects, both private and public and across all user created galleries. There are 2 galleries (private and public) that are automatically created and given the name of the user id. When a project is created, it is automatically added to the defaulted private gallery.

From the gallery view, we can see the defaulted public gallery but not the private gallery from the tree, which was confusing to me.  I am new to slogo nova and was playing around with it just prior to the update to v2.0 so forgive me if my questions seem basic.  I was initially unaware that these galleries were automatically created but noticed it's assigned gallery from the project detail view.  So I wanted to see where these galleries existed and saw the public gallery but not the private.

But based on the previous reply, I understand that the private gallery is intentionally not visible because you don't want user's to remove it from the private gallery, therefore guaranteeing that all projects are at least put into this private gallery?

It should be noted however that when I remixed Orientation_Concept Question Supplement  REMIX 2017-09-22 14:05:34.944406  I was able to remove it from all the galleries using the Galleries button. Now when I view it from the project detail screen, no galleries are shown. However from the projects view, the project is listed as private. This inconsistency seems like a bug?

I wasn't able to duplicate your bug. So when you click the galleries button for a given project, you were able to uncheck a box that's labeled with your private gallery? Can you post a screenshot of the popup that lets you check/uncheck boxes for moving a project into or out of various galleries?

Yes, I just tried it again I could not reproduce.  However, if you look at the following project, it does not show it's associated with any gallery from the project details page. This is a private project, so not sure if you can look up the details from the backend:  http://www.slnova.org/codeforfun/projects/494858/

Your screenshot does show that the project isn't in any galleries. Put your project in a public gallery and let's see if it shows up again in your private gallery. And if the glitch were to happen again, let us know.
