The transmission rate and recovery rate used in the epidemic model can be tricky for those new to agent based modeling. In other types of modeling rates generally apply to groups as a whole rather than individuals. In agent based models, rates are used to convey chance of the occurrence of a change or transition in a single agent's state from one state to another.
