COVID-19 Modelling Challenge
What: Model the spread of COVID-19 using StarLogo Nova
How: Learn basic StarLogo Nova skills then use those skills to customize your model to reflect how Coronavirus spreads. To that model, you can add different strategies and study the impact of the strategies on containing COVID-19’s spread.
Why: We are faced with a tremendous amount of news and information about COVID-19. One way to respond is to try to better understand the spread of coronavirus and strategies to contain its spread. Let’s work together to see what we can learn!

Activity #1: Introduction to Epidemiology 25 minutes (New Learning)
Toss-Up
This activity uses dics and various rounds of play to simulate the spread of a disease and allows students to examine the effect of three variables: transmission rate (determined by dice roll); duration (determined by number of rounds of play) and virulence (determined by infecting 4 or 8 neighbors). This activity fits well with the epidemiology model to discuss these variables before beginning to model a specific disease.

Archived Material: Module 1 Summary (for StarLogo 1.0)
This resource includes all materials and links for CS in Science, Module 1 for StarLogo Nova 1.0 (as updated in 2015). We recommend teachers become familiar with StarLogo Nova 2.0, which includes many improvements in the code blocks and the operating system, and transition to the updated materials for CS in Science, Module 1 for StarLogo Nova 2.0.
